2 killed in Meghalaya landslide

Two persons were killed in a landslide at the Police Reserve here this morning. The deceased were identified as Sohibuton Marak and Silnang Marak.

According to the police, workers were sent to clear the debris after there was a landslide at the police reserve in the morning. However, there was another landslide and two workers were buried underneath

The State Disaster Relief Force, Fire and Emergency Services and police personnel later retrieved the bodies.

Meanwhile, there have been reports of landslides and uprooting of trees due to incessant rain for the past three days.

The Met department has warned of more rainfall in all districts of the State in the next 24 hours.

Jorabat Correspondent adds: Heavy rains since the last few days in the Assam-Meghalaya region caused a landslide in Maikhuli village under the Pillangkata PS area in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya.

A huge chunk of rock slipped down a hill and damaged a stone crushing plant on Tuesday.

However, there was no loss of life.
