West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Mamata Banerjee will visit Assam on April 5 and hold a public rally at Dhubri to canvass for the party’s Lok Sabha candidates.
TMC Assam in-charge Gopi Nath Das today said Banerjee will be accompanied by a number of senior party leaders as well as ministers of the West Bengal government.
“Our leader Mamata Banerjee will be our main campaigner. Under her leadership, our party took a tough stand against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, and the people of Assam have appreciated the stand taken by our party. Banerjee has a proven track record as Chief Minister of West Bengal. We hope her campaign in Assam will give a major boost to our party’s prospects here,” Das said.
The TMC is contesting from nine of the 14 constituencies in Assam in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Das, a former State minister, said that Banerjee is also expected to come to Assam again later to hold rallies in other locations.
