Guwahati: Raakhi Ganeriwal, a 45-year-old chef, nutritionist, and devoted mother of two, has long championed the power of resilience and self-belief. Originally from Guwahati, Assam, she has made a name for herself in the culinary world and beyond, from competing on MasterChef India to inspiring others through her journey of self-discovery and mental well-being. Her latest achievement, however, is a true reflection of her unshakable determination: she was recently crowned Wellness Ambassador and became one of the top finalists at the Mrs. India (UMB) pageant.

“My journey to UMB was not just about competing; it was about reclaiming my dreams and honoring the young woman I once was,” says Ganeriwal, reflecting on her decision to enter the pageant. Despite battling a type two tendon tear and C-PTSD, she took a leap of faith, pushed by her daughter’s encouragement. “At that time, I was recovering physically and emotionally, but I felt this was the moment to reconnect with my 18-year-old self—the girl who believed in limitless possibilities,” she told Guwahati Times in an exclusive interview.

Ganeriwal’s story is not one of perfection, but of perseverance. After enduring two failed marriages, one abusive and the other fraudulent, she emerged stronger, with a fierce determination to live life on her own terms. “I believe in experiencing the pain of discipline rather than the pain of regret,” she explains. “Our pain doesn’t define us; our strength does.”

Through her work as a chef and nutritionist, Raakhi has advocated for mental and physical well-being. A self-described “fitness enthusiast by conviction,” she has used her platform to inspire others to prioritize their health, not just physically but mentally. “Today’s youth face so much pressure. I hope to be an example, showing them it’s okay to struggle, but what matters is how you rise from it,” she says.

Her achievements speak to her commitment to this cause. From her notable appearance as a Top 20 finalist on MasterChef India 4 (2015), to her feature in Amma Superstar (2018) and as a finalist in the Indian Cake Awards in collaboration with Cake Masters Magazine (2021), Ganeriwal has proven her culinary prowess. Most recently, she participated in MasterChef India 7 (2023), securing a spot in the top 36. These milestones have positioned her as a pioneering figure for the Northeast in India’s competitive culinary landscape.

Raakhi’s life is a testament to her belief in empowering women, and her participation in the UMB pageant was no different. “I chose UMB because of its commitment to celebrating women beyond size, shape, or social status,” she says. “It’s a platform that promotes inclusivity and equality, and that resonated deeply with me.” Through this pageant, she hopes to inspire others to embrace fitness, healthy eating, and mental well-being as pillars of a fulfilling life.

Despite the glitz and glamour of the pageant, Raakhi’s true motivation remains rooted in her family. Her daughters, aged 24 and 19, have been her biggest source of inspiration. “They embody resilience and independence,” says Ganeriwal. “They have shown me the strength I never knew I had.”

Winning one of the top 17 spots in the UMB pageant is a personal triumph for Raakhi. “This title is more than just a crown; it’s a reflection of resilience, dedication, and the power of believing in yourself,” she remarks. “Being crowned symbolizes that every challenge I faced was worth it, and it fuels my passion to lead by example and uplift others.”

Raakhi’s message to the women of Assam—and beyond—is clear: “You deserve everything—the affection you give, the joy you create, and the love you share. Never doubt your worth. Confidence is your greatest power. The only reflection you need to admire is your own.”

As she continues her journey, Raakhi Ganeriwal remains committed to breaking barriers and inspiring others to chase their dreams. “I am living proof that believing in yourself makes all the difference,” she says. “It is that belief that has brought me to where I am today, and I hope to inspire others to do the same.”

Through her achievements, advocacy, and relentless pursuit of her passions, Raakhi proves that it’s never too late to reclaim your dreams—and that every setback is just the beginning of a stronger, more empowered journey ahead.
