Kamal Dey, the BJP’s Jalukbari Mandal President, was found dead near his home in Shankar Nagar, Pandu, Maligaon. His lifeless body, discovered by a passerby during an early morning walk, was lying critically injured on the road.
Dey, who suffered severe head injuries, was immediately rushed to Swagat Super Speciality Surgical Institute, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. His body has been sent to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for a post-mortem examination.
Initially, suspicions arose that Dey might have been attacked by miscreants while returning home late at night. However, City Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta, who visited the site, indicated a different scenario based on initial findings. CCTV footage revealed that the incident likely resulted from an accident at a speed breaker around 2:47 am.
Despite these preliminary conclusions, allegations of foul play remain, prompting the involvement of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and forensic experts to ensure a comprehensive investigation.
Dey’s sudden demise has left his family, friends, and supporters in deep sorrow as they await clarity on the exact circumstances of his tragic death. The investigation is ongoing.
