45 JE deaths so far, situation under close watch: NHM

Altogether 45 Japanese encephalitis (JE) deaths have been reported till Wednesday in Assam as the State is undergoing the transmission season for JE cases, a statement issued by the National Health Mission (NHM) said.The situation in the State is under close watch and all preventive measures are being taken to combat the situation. District officials have taken recourse to various information campaigns and field reach measures like ensuring availability of diagnostic services for JE with Elisa kits made available in all district hospitals and medical colleges, the NHM statement said.

It further stated that in areas where JE cases have been reported, intensified awareness generation and intensive fogging operations are being carried out. Transportation of suspected fever cases from community to district hospitals and medical colleges has been made free and prioritised through Mrityunjoy 108 ambulances.

The State government has opened a 24X7 central control room to deal with and monitor the situation along with all kinds of patient support and feedback on a daily basis.

The government has directed all the deputy commissioners to step up surveillance activities in coordination with the panchayat and urban local bodies along with strengthening of diagnostics and case management. It has also appointed state monitors to monitor and support the field functionaries in smooth handling of the situation, the statement added.
