5-day Shilpgram Mahotsav gets under way | Guwahati

GUWAHATI, March 11 – The annual Shilpgram Mahotsav is being held on the Shilpgram premises at Panjabari here from March 11 to 15, marking its 14th foundation day.

However, the formal inauguration of the festival will be done by eminent folk singer Dhanada Pathak on March 13.

The festival, being held under the aegis of the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, will showcase a beautiful choreographic presentation by Dr Prashanna Gogoi titled ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ on folk and tribal dance performances from the north-eastern states and representations from all the zonal cultural centres including Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand,

Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Borgeet presentation by Pranami Kalita, folk dances of the North East featuring eight performances by various artistes from the region and Chiya Geet performance by Sankardev Shisu Vidya Niketan, Beltola, and Luit Konwar Rudra Barua State College of Music, Guwahati, besides six dance performances from various states of India followed by performance by popular singer Krishnamoni Chutia will be the highlights on March 13.

An Odissi dance performance by Vani Madhav, five folk dances to be presented by different communities of India, followed by a fusion and contemporary musical performance by Tetseo Sisters and Sofiyum will be the highlights on March 14.

On March 15, a rock music performance by Summer Salt will be held. The Young Talent Artiste Award for 2018-19 will be presented on the same day. Governor of Nagaland and Chairman, NEZCC, RN Ravi, will attend the closing ceremony on March 15 as the chief guest. Nrityacharjya Jatin Goswami will be the guest of honour.

Children’s activities, including a workshop on puppetry, will be conducted under the direction of puppetry expert Chabin Rajkhowa on all the festival days. The event will also feature traditional food festival and craft exhibition at 4 pm daily.
