GUWAHATI, March 13 – The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) is planning to form a common platform of likeminded organizations to intensify the movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 after the ongoing examinations. The students’ body also strongly criticized the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister for their “arrogant attitude” on the issue.

AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya told Media that the student body has started talks with likeminded organisations including Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, Sadau Asom Karmachari Parishad, Asam Sahitya Sabha, All Assam Lawyers’ Association and representatives of ethnic bodies to explore the feasibility of forming a common platform to intensify the movement against the CAA.

Bhattacharya said that the movement against the CAA would not fizzle out and the AASU is prepared for a long movement. He said that the intensity of the movement was lowered deliberately because of the High School Leaving and Higher Secondary examinations. “We have learnt from the experience of the Assam movement and all out efforts have been made to ensure that the students are not affected by the movement against the CAA,” he added.
