All Educational Institutes In Assam Closed Indefinitely Due To Covid

With the surge in the Covid-19 cases in the state, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that all the educational institutions of the state will be closed down for an indefinite period. The order will come into force from today.
“All the educational institutions will be closed around the state, despite the district reporting more than 300 cases of Covid-19,” said the health minister. Earlier on Tuesday, the HSLC, High Madrassa and Higher Secondary final exams of SEBA and AHSEC were postponed in view of the rising Covid-19 cases in the State.
The AHSEC issued a notification saying that the higher secondary final year examination has been postponed due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the State until further order. The examination was scheduled to be held on May 11. Notably, last week, the AHSEC first year examination was postponed indefinitely.
The Assam Government on Tuesday also extended the night curfew hours due to the surge in the Covid-19 cases. The night curfew will be in force indefinitely from May 5. As per the new guidelines, the night curfew will be imposed from 6 pm to 5 am instead of 8 pm to 5 am from May 5 onwards.
All the shops and business establishments will remain closed from 2 pm onwards. Earlier, all shops and market places were ordered to be closed by 6 pm.
The state reported 4,475 cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday. A total of 55,003 tests were done, out of which 8.14% tested positive for the deadly virus. Kamrup (Metropolitan) alone recorded 1,417 cases of Covid-19.
