28 April 2026: The multidisciplinary art centre Shobdoghor, established in 2023, is set to celebrate the 165th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore with a three-day programme from 1st to 3rd May, continuing its annual tradition. The event, titled “Alokshikha Jwaluk Prane”, will be held at the Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Performing Arts, Machkhowa, Guwahati.
The inaugural day, 1st May at 3:30 PM, will feature the opening of an exhibition titled “Chirantan 25she Boishakh”, which presents a glimpse into how Tagore’s birthday was celebrated during his lifetime. The exhibition has been conceptualized, designed, and curated by Shubhradeep Bhattacharya of Agartala. It will be inaugurated by Prof. Satyam Roychowdhury, Vice Chancellor of Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. Distinguished guests present on the occasion will include Dr. Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, former Vice Chancellor of Assam University; noted Tagore scholar Prof. Usharanjan Bhattacharya, former Dean, Faculty of Arts, Gauhati University; and eminent Rabindra Sangeet artiste Manoj Murali Nair. The exhibition will remain open to visitors till 3rd May.
On 2nd May at 3:30 PM, the cultural programme will begin with a Shruti Alekhya (audio-visual narrative) titled “Ru & Rabi”, presented by members of Shobdoghor. The concept, script, and direction of the presentation are by Paromita Nag. This will be followed by a musical performance by invited Rabindra Sangeet artiste Manoj Murali Nair from Santiniketan, titled “Ebong Manoj: A Musical Voyage with Tagore.”
