Assam all set to celebrate Bhogali Bihu, Uruka today

Assam is all set to celebrate Bhogali Bihu with gusto and enthusiasm with people getting in a position for community feast on Uruka tonight. The harvest festival holds special significance for each and every Assamese with people, especially in semi-urban and rural pockets of the State, constructing bhelaghars based on more than a few themes that have now develop into crowdpuller, catching the attention of all and sundry.

Meantime, markets witnessed hectic activity as people made last-minute purchases. Fish markets hogged all limelight as people made a beeline to them to receive their choicest fish variety.


The fish market at Uzan Bazaar used to be some of the centre of all attraction as people thronged the Brahmaputra river bank as early as 2-3 am in the morning to seize the most efficient deal.

Fish sellers came from in and around Guwahati and from places so far as Nalbari, Mangaldai and Nagaon.

Bhogali Uruka today, people thronging markets to make final minute purchases; massive hurry witnessed at fish markets across #Assam, people take part in community fishing at many places.

Almost a lakh footfall used to be recorded at the Uzan Bazaar Ghat till midday as fishes weighing as high as 15-20 kilograms were sold.

Fish markets in other places of the State also witnessed massive crowds

Meantime, people took part in community fishing at more than a few places as a part of the Bhogali fervour and festivities
