Assam Budget 2026: ₹1,164-Crore A-SEMI Project Announced to Boost Assam’s Semiconductor Ecosystem

GUWAHATI, July 10: Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, while presenting the Assam Budget 2026, announced the launch of the Assam Semiconductor Ecosystem on Manufacturing and Innovation (A-SEMI) project to position the state as India’s leading semiconductor hub.

The proposed project, to be implemented in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will have an estimated outlay of around ₹1,164 crore over the next five years.

The minister said the initiative builds on the momentum created by Tata Electronics’ OSAT facility at Jagiroad and aims to develop world-class infrastructure, create a dedicated semiconductor ecosystem, attract global investments, generate employment, strengthen MSMEs, and place Assam at the forefront of India’s semiconductor revolution.
