GUWAHATI, July 10: Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, while presenting the Assam Budget 2026, said that the state, in partnership with the Government of India, is implementing transformational infrastructure projects worth over ₹55,000 crore.
The major projects include the Guwahati Ring Road (₹4,954 crore), Greenfield Silchar High-Speed Corridor (₹22,864 crore), Kaziranga Elevated Corridor (₹6,957 crore), and the Gohpur–Numaligarh Brahmaputra Tunnel (₹18,662 crore).
The minister said the Greenfield Silchar High-Speed Corridor will reduce travel time between Guwahati and Silchar from around 8 hours 30 minutes to nearly 5 hours.
He also announced that the state government is working closely with the Centre on three major connectivity projects: the four-laning of the Baihata Chariali–Mission Chariali road to Tezpur (₹13,812 crore), an elevated corridor from Guwahati Airport to Jalukbari (₹3,423 crore), and a new bridge across the Brahmaputra connecting Morigaon and Darrang.
According to the minister, these projects will significantly improve regional connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and ensure faster movement of people and goods across Assam.
