Guwahati: Assam delivered a commendable performance at the Youth Sports National Championship 2026, held at Eklavya Sports Stadium in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, from March 22 to 24, securing a total of seven medals in Table Tennis and Badminton events.
Among the standout performers was Prof. (Dr.) Jyotirmoy Sarmah, who emerged as one of Assam’s top medal winners. He claimed two silver medals, finishing as the runner-up in Table Tennis Singles and also securing silver in Badminton Doubles in the senior category alongside partner Saket Kedia.
In the Table Tennis Men’s Singles category, Manjeel Gondhia claimed the gold medal, emerging as the champion. Assam’s young talents also made their mark, with Dakshata Phukan Hazarika winning bronze in the Girls Under-14 category, while Himanish Sharma secured bronze in the Boys Under-19 category.
In the Badminton segment, Saksham Keyal earned a silver medal, while Abhinav Kedia added another medal to Assam’s tally by winning bronze in the Boys Under-19 category.
With these achievements, Assam concluded the championship with an impressive haul of seven medals, reflecting the state’s rising strength in competitive sports at the national level.
The Youth Sports National Championship 2026 was organized by the Youth Sports Education Federation India, a body recognized by the Ministry of MSME and the Fit India Movement, and approved by NITI Aayog, Government of India.
