GUWAHATI, July 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday extended his best wishes to the state’s athletes ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2026, scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 2.
In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister wished Lovlina Borgohain, Nayanmoni Saikia, Putul Sonowal, and Lisa Das, expressing confidence that they would make the state and the nation proud with their performances.
“Best wishes to Assam’s champs- Lovlina Borgohain, Nayanmoni Saikia, Putul Sonowal and Lisa Das for the upcoming #CommonwealthGames2026.
I am confident that they will give their best shot in their sporting disciplines and bring laurels for the country. Their hardwork, aided by our Govt’s unstinted support to players has earned them their prestigious place in the coveted Games.,” the Chief Minister wrote.
Himanta Biswa Sarma particularly highlighted the four athletes in his post and wished them success in the prestigious international sporting event.
Notably, the 23rd Commonwealth Games will feature 10 sports, nine fewer than the Birmingham 2022 edition, with competitions spread across four venues within an eight-mile corridor in Glasgow.
Meanwhile, India will send a 125-member contingent, including para-athletes, to compete at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
