Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has officially ended its political alliance with Raijor Dal, accusing the regional party of repeatedly violating alliance discipline and launching personal attacks against Congress leaders.
The decision was announced through an organisational circular issued on Thursday under the direction of APCC president and Lok Sabha Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi. The circular, signed by APCC General Secretary (Organisation) Ramanna Baruah, stated that the alliance stands dissolved with immediate effect.
The Congress and Raijor Dal had earlier joined hands with several regional and Left parties to build a united opposition front for the Lok Sabha and Assam Assembly elections. The coalition aimed to consolidate opposition votes and challenge the BJP in the state.
Congress Alleges Repeated Breach of Alliance Norms
In its circular, the Congress alleged that Raijor Dal leaders repeatedly violated the spirit of the alliance by engaging in false propaganda and making personal attacks against Congress leaders.
The party further claimed that some Raijor Dal leaders made “baseless, unwarranted and disrespectful” remarks not only against senior Congress leaders but also against leaders of other parties that were part of the opposition alliance.
According to the APCC, such actions repeatedly undermined the trust and discipline required to sustain the coalition, making it impossible to continue the political partnership.
Opposition to BJP Will Continue, Says Congress
Despite ending its alliance with Raijor Dal, the Congress asserted that its broader political agenda remains unchanged.
The party said it will continue to raise issues affecting the people of Assam and work for public welfare while maintaining its democratic opposition to what it described as the BJP government’s “anti-people” policies and governance.
The move formally brings an end to the Congress-Raijor Dal alliance in Assam, marking a significant shift in the state’s opposition politics ahead of future electoral battles.
