Housing Loan Limit Raised to Rs. 50 Lakh in Urban Areas
GUWAHATI, July 10: The Assam Government has announced a series of welfare measures for its employees, including the extension of the Apon Ghar and Apon Bahan schemes for another five years, enhancement of housing loan benefits, improved healthcare facilities, and the introduction of paternity leave.
Apon Ghar Benefits Over 52,000 Employees
The Apon Ghar scheme has significantly improved access to affordable housing for government employees. So far, 52,034 employees have availed housing loans amounting to more than Rs. 8,300 crore, while the government has provided Rs. 707 crore as interest subsidy.
Encouraged by the overwhelming response, the government has proposed extending the scheme for another five years. The maximum eligible housing loan amount will also be enhanced to Rs. 50 lakh for employees purchasing homes in urban areas.
Apon Bahan Scheme Extended; Higher Subsidy for Electric Vehicles
The Apon Bahan scheme has benefited 8,636 government employees to date. The government has proposed extending the scheme for another five years.
To encourage the adoption of clean and sustainable transportation, the interest subvention for electric vehicles (EVs) under the scheme will be increased to 4 percent.
Cashless Healthcare Under MMLSAY
The government also announced improvements to the Mukhya Mantri Lok Sevak Arogya Yojana (MMLSAY). In addition to the existing medical reimbursement facility, steps are being taken to provide maximum cashless medical treatment by empanelling reputed hospitals across the state.
Two Weeks of Paternity Leave Proposed
In a move aimed at promoting work-life balance and encouraging greater parental involvement in child care, the Assam Government has proposed two weeks of paternity leave for government employees.
The latest measures are expected to further strengthen employee welfare by enhancing financial security, improving healthcare access, supporting sustainable mobility, and promoting family-friendly workplace policies.
