Mobile internet services ban extended by 48 Hours in Several Districts of Assam.

The Guwahati police chief was removed on Thursday, even as thousands of protesters took to the streets in defiance of a curfew imposed on the city after the parliament cleared the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill the previous night.

The suspension of Internet services in 10 districts of Assam has been extended for another 48 hours from noon, and army personnel have been deployed in four areas where pitched battles between protesters and police were witnessed.

Many other parts of the Northeast were also plunged into chaos, forcing the suspension of train services to Assam and Tripura and spurring several airlines to cancel flights to Guwahati and Dibrugarh.(pti)
