Assam to Get First State-Run Proton Therapy Centre at GMCH; Rs. 550 Crore Project Announced

Guwahati Medical College & Hospital to Offer Advanced Cancer Treatment

GUWAHATI, July 10: In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure, the Assam Government has announced the establishment of a Proton Therapy facility at Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), making it the first State Government-run hospital in India to offer this advanced form of cancer treatment.

Rs. 550 Crore Investment Planned

The Proton Therapy facility will be developed with an investment of around Rs. 550 crore and is expected to become operational within the next three years.

World-Class Precision Cancer Care

Proton Therapy is one of the most advanced forms of radiation treatment for cancer. It enables highly precise targeting of tumours while significantly reducing damage to surrounding healthy tissues, thereby improving treatment outcomes and reducing side effects.

Once operational, the facility at GMCH is expected to provide world-class cancer care within Assam, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced treatment and strengthening the region’s healthcare capabilities.
