Assam’s Economy Doubled To ₹6 Lakh Crore Under BJP Rule :PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the *Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025* in Guwahati, highlighting Assam’s economic growth under BJP governance. He stated that the state’s economy has doubled to ₹6 lakh crore, attributing this progress to the “double-engine” government’s efforts.

Modi emphasized that Eastern India, particularly the Northeast, is entering a new era of development, with *Advantage Assam* playing a crucial role in connecting the state to global opportunities. He noted that the region, historically significant to India’s prosperity, is now set to contribute even more to the nation’s growth.

Discussing India’s economic trajectory, he underscored efforts to strengthen the local supply chain, expand free trade agreements, and boost global connectivity through initiatives like the *India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor*. Despite global uncertainties, experts remain optimistic about India’s rapid growth, driven by a skilled workforce and stable policies.

Reflecting on Assam’s progress, Modi recalled that in 2018, during the first *Advantage Assam* summit, the state’s economy was valued at ₹2.75 lakh crore. Since then, it has surged to ₹6 lakh crore, supported by investments in infrastructure, industry, and innovation. He also highlighted a fivefold increase in Assam’s railway budget, from ₹2,100 crore (2009-2014) to ₹10,000 crore, with a target of reaching a *Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)* of $143 billion by 2030.

To accelerate industrialization, he announced the *North-East Industrialization Transformation Plan – ‘Unnati’*. He also praised Assam’s 200-year-old tea industry as a global economic symbol.

The summit aims to attract investments, boost industrial growth, and position Assam as a vital gateway to Southeast Asia.
