GUWAHATI: The 2026 edition of the Kanaklata Barua Inter-District Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament has begun in Assam, providing women cricketers from across the state with a competitive platform to showcase their talent.
Organised under the Assam Cricket Association, the tournament is being played in T20 format from September 12 to September 23.
The preliminary stages are being conducted across four venues in the state, including Morigaon, Mangaldai, Dibrugarh and Barpeta.
Teams representing different districts of Assam have been divided into four groups, with the competition progressing through league-stage matches before the group finals.
The group finals are scheduled for September 19, following which the four group winners will advance to the final round.
The tournament will then move into its decisive stage, with the two semi-finals scheduled for September 22. The final is set to be played on September 23.
The competition is aimed at giving women cricketers from different districts regular exposure to organised competitive cricket while helping the Assam Cricket Association identify and develop emerging talent.
The tournament also provides players with an opportunity to perform in a structured T20 environment and strengthen their prospects of progressing to higher levels of state cricket.
With women’s cricket continuing to expand across Assam, the Kanaklata Barua Inter-District Women’s T20 Tournament remains an important platform for grassroots development and competitive exposure.
The tournament is named after Kanaklata Barua, one of Assam’s prominent freedom fighters, and serves as a sporting platform carrying her name while promoting women’s participation in cricket across the state.
