Sivasagar, July 30: The Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA), Doomdooma Regional Committee, on Thursday alleged that several flood-affected villages and tea garden areas in Assam’s Sivasagar district are yet to receive relief from the government and district administration despite suffering extensive damage during the recent floods.
The allegations were made after an ATTSA delegation visited Chontok Tea Estate, Hanuman Tea Estate, Bamunpukhuri Tea Estate, Nepalikhuti village, and the Chikri Bridge area, where the organisation distributed relief materials to affected families.
“Our team witnessed heartbreaking scenes of devastation. The people told us they have not received any assistance from either the government or the district administration till now. Families are struggling to survive in extremely difficult conditions, and the absence of official relief has deepened their suffering,” said ATTSA Doomdooma Regional Committee President Irot Tanti.
According to the student organisation, many flood-affected families are living in difficult conditions and continue to recover from widespread damage caused by the floods.
While ATTSA distributed essential relief materials, it said that voluntary efforts alone are insufficient to address the needs of the affected communities. The organisation urged the authorities to conduct an immediate assessment of the situation and ensure relief reaches every affected household without delay.
“We appeal to the government and the administration to stand beside the flood-affected people during this humanitarian crisis. These vulnerable communities urgently need relief, rehabilitation and sustained support. No disaster-hit family should be left waiting for basic assistance,” Tanti added.
The relief drive was carried out with the support of ATTSA leaders from Tinsukia district, representatives of the Assam Tea Tribes Women’s Association (ATTWA), members of the Doomdooma Regional Committee, and volunteers from several local units.
Reiterating its demand for immediate government intervention in the worst-affected areas, ATTSA thanked all individuals and organisations that contributed to the relief campaign.
The state government and the Sivasagar district administration have not yet responded to ATTSA’s allegations regarding the alleged lack of relief distribution in the affected areas.
