Bodoland in Spotlight: PM Modi Praises Region’s Remarkable Transformation Through Sports in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Kokrajhar, June 29 —
In a deeply evocative address during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi drew the nation’s attention to a transformed Bodoland — one that is no longer defined by its turbulent past, but by the vibrant spirit of its youth, its love for football, and its rising stature on India’s sports map.

Using vivid imagery, the Prime Minister described Bodoland as a region where the morning sun now rises over hope and unity — a place where football fields echo not just with cheers, but with the aspirations of an entire generation. “This is not just imagination,” PM Modi said. “This is today’s Bodoland — a region in Assam that has reinvented itself with a new face and a new identity.”

He highlighted the monumental scale of the Bodoland CEM Gold Cup, describing it as more than a tournament — a festival of passion and progress. With over 3,700 teams and 70,000 players, including a significant number of women participants, the tournament reflects the region’s collective shift toward opportunity and empowerment.

“There was a time when struggle was the identity of this land. Opportunities were few, and aspirations limited. But today, there is a new dream in the eyes of the youth and courage in their hearts,” the Prime Minister remarked.

PM Modi also praised the emergence of local football icons such as Halicharan Narzary, Durga Boro, Apurba Narzary, and Manbir Basumatary, who have risen from modest beginnings to make a national impact. Their stories, he said, are now a source of inspiration for young athletes across India.

The mention of Bodoland in the Prime Minister’s national broadcast is being seen as a moment of pride and recognition for the region, which has been steadily carving out a new narrative — one rooted in peace, talent, and resilience.
