Kokrajhar, Assam – In a significant step toward advancing science education in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), the second space laboratory was inaugurated today at Grahampur H.S. School, marking a historic moment for the region and Northeast India.
Chief Executive Member (CEM), BTR, Pramod Boro inaugurated BTR’s second space laboratory, named the Mathias Tudu Memorial Space Laboratory. The facility is dedicated to the late Mathias Tudu, former cabinet minister of Assam who served as an eight-time Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly representing Gossaigaon and held key ministerial positions, including Revenue Minister in the Government of Assam.
The newly established space lab aims to provide students with an enriched environment to engage in innovative research and experimentation, fostering intellectual curiosity, technological advancement, and academic excellence. The initiative is expected to inspire young minds to explore advancements in space science and discovery.
The event saw the presence of Executive Member (EM) Wilson Hasda, MLA Jiron Basumatary, and other dignitaries.
Earlier, on July 19, 2024, the first-ever space laboratory in a government school in Northeast India was inaugurated at Sidli-Kashikotra Higher Secondary School in Chirang district. This pioneering space lab is dedicated to the memory of Chino Basumatary, a journalist and activist known for his contributions to the Bodo community. It aims to attract students toward science education and encourage their interest in space research.
Both space labs have been established as part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the BTR government and Vyomika Space Academy, New Delhi. Under this agreement, ten space laboratories will be set up in various schools within the region, equipping students with the necessary infrastructure to develop their scientific acumen and pursue careers in space technology and research.
The inauguration of these space labs represents a major milestone in the educational landscape of BTR, ensuring that students have access to state-of-the-art facilities to nurture their aspirations in the field of science and technology.
