BTR Launches Third Space Lab in Government School

Kokrajhar, April 4, 2025: The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is leading the way in space science education with the establishment of three space laboratories in government schools—the first such initiative in Northeast India. The latest addition, the Sunilal Narzary Memorial Space Laboratory, was inaugurated at Tipkai Higher Secondary School, Parbatjhora on April 3, 2025. This marks a major step in providing students with hands-on exposure to space science, technology, and innovation.

The journey began on July 19, 2024, with the inauguration of the Chino Basumatary Memorial Space Laboratory at Sidli-Kashikotra Higher Secondary School in Chirang district. Named after journalist and social worker Chino Basumatary, the lab was the first of its kind in any government school in Northeast India. It introduced students to advanced scientific concepts, sparking a new interest in space exploration.

Building on this success, the Mathias Tudu Memorial Space Laboratory was inaugurated at Grahampur Higher Secondary School in Kokrajhar district on April 2, 2025. This second space lab further expanded opportunities for students to engage in practical learning, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications in space technology.

With the launch of the third space lab at Tipkai Higher Secondary School, BTR continues to set new benchmarks in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. These facilities are equipped with modern instruments, including telescopes and satellite models, offering students invaluable hands-on experience. The initiative aims to inspire young minds and nurture the next generation of scientists and space explorers from the region.

BTR’s commitment to enhancing scientific education through such initiatives is a game-changer, ensuring that students from government schools have access to world-class learning experiences. This groundbreaking effort is transforming education and positioning BTR as a leader in space science learning in Northeast India.
