Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said that the State government is committed to provide Har Ghar Jal (water in all households) and become a Har Ghar Jal Rajya by 2024. He, therefore, asked the implementing agency of Jal Jeevan Mission to dedicate itself to create infrastructure to achieve the target.
Chairing a meeting of Jal Jeevan Mission at the Assam Administrative Staff College here today, Sonowal said that Jal Jeevan Mission is intrinsically linked to Swacch Bharat Abhiyan because without water neither health nor hygiene is possible. He, there, said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State government has ventured itself in providing functional household tap connection to all the targeted beneficiaries in the State by the stipulated time.
The Chief Minister asked Additional Chief Secretary, PHE, Syedain Abbasi to mobilize the entire machinery of the State meant for Jal Jeevan Mission and work astutely to create a dedicated infrastructure for the mission to reach its meaningful and logical conclusion. He also asked him and his team to work so that targets set for each year is met.
Considering the presence of arsenic in some pockets of the districts of the State, Sonowal stressed on the need of taking adequate scientific steps for taking corrective measures of giving arsenic-free water under the mission.
Sonowal said that there is an urgent need to undertake the development initiatives and the coronavirus shouldn’t become a hurdle for development activities.
He also asked the mission functionaries to complete all the modalities by December this year so that at least 40 lakh households can be covered by the next year.
