Kokrajhar, July 18: The District Entrepreneur Meet and Awareness Program on the Geographical Indications (GI) Act and the Handloom (Reservation of Articles for Production) Act was held today at Science College, Kokrajhar, under the banner of the Bodoland Handloom Mission (BHM).
The event served as a convergence point for entrepreneurs, traders, and weavers, aiming to promote greater awareness of the legal and cultural importance of these Acts in safeguarding indigenous crafts and empowering artisan communities in the Bodoland region.
The program was graced by Executive Member Dhananjay Basumatary and MCLA and Chairman of BRAWFED Reo Reoa Narzihary, along with senior officials of the Government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Subject experts from institutions including the Weavers’ Service Centre, Handloom Research and Designing Centre, Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC), and the North East Women Entrepreneurs Association (NEWEA) conducted engaging sessions and interactive discussions. These sessions underscored the need to preserve traditional weaving practices, promote legal literacy among artisans, and foster pride in the region’s rich handloom heritage.
