Gohpur: Several areas of Gohpur subdivision in Assam’s Biswanath district have been affected by rising floodwaters following heavy rainfall over the past few days. The rising waters of several fast-flowing rivers, including Balijan, Brahmajan, Chatrang, Solengi and Kukurjan, breached embankments at multiple locations on Monday.
Following the directions of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Tuesday inspected several flood-affected and embankment-damaged areas in Gohpur along with MP Ranjit Dutta and MLAs Utpal Borah and Munindra Das.
The team visited the affected stretches at Ghimrujan under Rangaliyali Gaon Panchayat, Magani Kachari village under Krishnapur Gaon Panchayat, Chatrang under Gohpur Municipal Board, and the damaged portion of the embankment connecting Nalbari and Sonapur under Sonapur Gaon Panchayat.
During the visit, the minister interacted with affected residents and took stock of the situation on the ground.
He also directed officials of the concerned departments to take necessary measures to address the situation and repair the damaged embankments.
Minister Baruah expressed confidence that the administration would be able to bring the situation under control at the earliest.
