Guwahati murder accused Ramanuj Goswami dies after falling from Narakasur Hills

GUWAHATI: Ramanuj Goswami, the prime accused in the murder of his wife Riya Talukdar, died early Monday after allegedly jumping from Narakasur Hills while in police custody.

According to police, Goswami was being taken from Hatigaon towards Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a blood test at around 3 am when he allegedly jumped from the police vehicle near Narakasur Hills in an attempt to escape.

Police said Goswami sustained severe injuries in the fall. He was subsequently taken to GMCH, where he was declared brought dead.

GMCH authorities said Goswami was brought to the hospital at around 3:41 am and was declared dead on arrival. Officials also clarified that there was no bullet injury.

His body has been kept at the GMCH morgue for post-mortem examination.

Goswami had been arrested in connection with the killing of his wife, Riya Talukdar, at their residence in Guwahati. The case had drawn widespread attention following the recovery of Riya’s body and the subsequent surrender of Goswami before police.

The circumstances surrounding Goswami’s death are likely to be examined as part of the investigation.
