HIMANTA BISWA SARMA HOISTS NATIONAL FLAG AT MORIGAON

GUWAHATI: Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma unfurled the tricolour at Morigaon on the occasion of 74th Independence Day.

In the beginning of his speech, Dr. Sarma paid his tribute to the freedom fighters of the country. He also highlighted the contribution of Morigaon district in the freedom struggle of India. He recalled the freedom fighters of the district who fought valiantly against the British to gain independence for the country.

In his address, Dr. Sarma deliberated success and achievements of prime minister Narendra Modi-led government in the country.

He also briefed about welfare schemes and developmental projects undertaken by the Assam government.

“In the last four years, our government has fulfilled all its promises with honesty. We have fulfilled our promises—from free admission to the educational institutes to provincialisation of the schools and colleges, distribution of textbooks and many more,” Dr. Sarma said.

The minister also talked about the newly launched Orunodoi scheme of the Government of Assam.

“19 lakh families will get the benefit of Orunodoi scheme on the first day of every month through their bank accounts. We will start the first phase from October 2. The Assam government has decided to spend Rs. 2 crore for the Orunodi scheme,” minister Himanta Biswa Sarma elaborated.
