Guwahati, July 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Assam over the next three to four days, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely between July 30 and August 1 across Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. The weather department said intense rainfall in the neighbouring states of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland is expected to affect the bordering districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat in Assam.
The IMD has warned that the spell of heavy rain may lead to waterlogging, flash floods, disruption of road traffic and localized landslides in vulnerable areas.
In response to the forecast, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said district administrations and emergency response agencies have been placed on alert and are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation.
ASDMA has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall, especially in flood- and landslide-prone areas. The authority has also advised people to stay updated through official weather bulletins and follow advisories issued by local administrations.
The state administration is keeping a close watch on the situation as several parts of Assam continue to remain vulnerable to flooding during the ongoing monsoon season.
