Senior Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah has extended a warm and heartfelt welcome to the country’s illustrious Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on his arrival in the sacred land of Assam, describing him as a global leader and a true friend of the state.
Expressing his happiness, Jayanta Malla Baruah said that the historic “Bagurumba Dance Festival 2026,” to be held today at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, will mark a proud moment for Assam. More than 10,000 Bodo dancers will perform Bagurumba together on one stage, taking Assam’s rich tribal culture to a new global height and showcasing the state’s heritage before the world.
He further stated that on January 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project at Kaliabor, a landmark infrastructure initiative worth approximately ₹6,950 crore. The 86-kilometre-long project includes a 34.5-kilometre elevated wildlife corridor, a 21-kilometre bypass, and the upgradation of 30 kilometres of NH-715 from two lanes to four lanes.
Jayanta Malla Baruah emphasized that this project is not merely a national highway but a unique model that balances development with environmental conservation. The corridor will ensure uninterrupted wildlife movement, reduce human-animal conflict, and significantly strengthen connectivity, tourism, and commercial activities in the region.
He also welcomed the inauguration of two new Amrit Bharat Express train services between Guwahati–Rohtak and Dibrugarh–Lucknow, stating that these trains will firmly connect the Northeast with northern and central India. According to Baruah, this will provide safe, affordable, and convenient travel for students, working professionals, traders, and the general public, while opening new doors for Assam’s economic growth.
Jayanta Malla Baruah credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership and Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s dynamic governance for the success of the double-engine government, which, he said, has transformed Assam into a strong centre of development, conservation, and cultural pride.
He expressed confidence that the Prime Minister’s visit will energize the hopes and aspirations of the people of Assam and will be remembered as a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing journey of comprehensive transformation.
