Jorhat honey-trap racket busted; five arrested for allegedly blackmailing bank manager

Jorhat Police have arrested five people, including two women, in connection with an alleged honey-trapping and blackmailing racket targeting a private bank manager.

According to police, the case came to light after the bank manager from Tinsukia approached the authorities with a complaint alleging that he had been lured into a trap after coming in contact with a woman through Instagram.

The woman allegedly invited him to a rented house in Jorhat, where he was reportedly recorded in a compromising situation. The accused allegedly used the video to threaten and blackmail him, demanding money in exchange for not circulating the footage.

Police said the victim had allegedly paid ₹3 lakh following the threats, while a further demand for ₹5 lakh was subsequently made.

Based on the complaint, Jorhat Police launched an investigation and arrested five people. The arrested persons have been identified as Moromi Das Neog, Baby Bora, Ankit Bora, Sanjib Das and Ankit Paul. Police have described Moromi Das Neog as the alleged mastermind of the racket.

During the investigation, police reportedly seized mobile phones and examined digital evidence, including alleged obscene videos and screenshots of financial transactions.

Police are investigating whether the group was involved in similar incidents involving other victims. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
