In a bid to revive and popularize Sanskrit language in Assam
and other northeastern states, organizing secretary of Sanskrit Bharati,
Dinesh Kamat, along with other members of the organization met Assam
governor, Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan here recently.
The delegation, besides submitting a memorandum, requested the
governor to ensure that Sanskrit is made compulsory from primary to the
higher secondary level in schools across the northeast.
The Sanskrit Bharati is a non-profitable charitable trust that works for the
development and expansion of Sanskrit language in the state.
President of Sanskrit Bharti, Assam, Kumud Borthakur and organizing secretary, Bhaben Saikia were also present during the
meeting.
Kamat also said the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) should be held immediately for filling up vacancies in different schools.
Through the memorandum, the organization also requested the governor to prepare a blueprint for training potential Sanskrit
teachers.
