Meghalaya police rescues 16-year-old Assam girl from kidnappers

Tura: A 16-year-old girl who was kidnapped from Assam by a gang and held captive in the Rajabala region of the West Garo Hills district was finally rescued on Monday, police said.

The West Garo Hills police conducted the rescue operation on Monday morning in the Sakmal area of the plain belt region and they successfully the hideout where the minor was being held captive. West Garo Hills Superintendent of police MGR Kumar said that the Rajabala police received information given by Sukchor station of Assam about the kidnapping of a 16-year-old minor girl from Ujonbatra in Assam, based on which search and rescue operations were launched. As per reports, the girl was kidnapped by a gang of six persons, including two from Garo Hills identified as Mojidur Rahman and Sher Ali of Nolbari-Phulbari. The police we finally able to locate the gang’s hideout at Sakmal — between Rajabala and Hallidayganj towns in West Garo Hills. Upon being discovered, the criminals tried to flee, but the police gave chase, leading to the arrest of one gang member and two collaborators. The young girl was finally united with her family and the arrested criminals handed over to the Assam police for further process.
