GUWAHATI: Assam cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah has carried out extensive district-level tours across the state since the formation of the present government in June 2022. Official records show that the minister has completed 783 district visits, covering all 35 districts of Assam, reflecting sustained field-level engagement over the past three and a half years.

The data, compiled from the Public Health Engineering Department and the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs, indicates that these visits included 242 overnight stays, highlighting regular on-ground monitoring of departmental works and administrative reviews under the government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Early Phase in 2022 Focused on Ground Assessment

During the initial phase of his tenure between June and December 2022, Jayanta Malla Baruah undertook 73 district visits, accompanied by 41 overnight stays. This period primarily focused on assessing ground realities, reviewing ongoing schemes, and strengthening coordination between departments and district administrations.

Districts such as Nalbari, Cachar, Kamrup Metro, Dibrugarh, and Golaghat received early attention, emerging as key focus areas for infrastructure development and urban service delivery.

Field Engagements Expanded in 2023

The pace of district-level engagement increased significantly in 2023. The minister conducted 150 visits during the year, along with 60 overnight stays, nearly doubling the outreach compared to the previous year.

Multiple visits were recorded in districts including Nalbari, Kamrup Metro, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Barpeta. These visits coincided with intensified monitoring of drinking water projects, urban housing initiatives, and other public infrastructure works.

2024 Recorded the Highest Number of Visits

The year 2024 marked the peak of district outreach, with 292 visits and 110 overnight stays, making it the most active year in terms of field presence.

Nalbari alone accounted for 87 visits, while Kamrup Metro recorded 33 visits. Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, and Cachar also featured prominently. This phase aligned with large-scale execution and review of water supply schemes, housing missions, and inter-departmental coordination efforts.

Sustained Engagement Continued in 2025

From January to early December 2025, Jayanta Malla Baruah completed 267 district visits, including 31 overnight stays. Nalbari again emerged as the most visited district with 94 visits, followed by Kamrup Metro with 47 visits, Tamulpur with 21 visits, and Kamrup with 15 visits.

Official records further show that between 5 and 20 December 2025, the minister undertook 27 visits across seven districts, all without overnight stays, indicating intensive short-duration field reviews.

Statewide Coverage Over Three and a Half Years

Overall, the figures show that all 35 districts of Assam were covered between June 2022 and December 2025. Districts such as Kamrup Metro, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Cachar, and Nagaon emerged among the most frequently visited, underlining their administrative and developmental significance.
