Dhubri: A minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in the Chagolia Police Outpost area of Gauripur in Assam’s Dhubri district, following which a video of the alleged incident was reportedly circulated on mobile phones.
According to the complaint, three youths identified as Bishwajit Roy, Dip Roy and Shiva Roy allegedly lured the minor with various promises and sexually assaulted her after rendering her unconscious. The accused allegedly recorded the incident on video.
The video was later allegedly handed over to Alay Kumar Roy of Gauripur, who has been accused of circulating it on mobile phones and allegedly blackmailing the minor using the footage.
Following the incident, the minor approached the Chagolia Police Outpost and lodged a complaint. Police registered a case under Case No. 229/26 and launched an investigation.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested Alay Kumar Roy under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was subsequently sent to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, Bishwajit Roy, Dip Roy and Shiva Roy, who have been named in connection with the alleged assault, are reportedly absconding. Police are continuing efforts to trace the remaining accused.
The alleged circulation of the video has raised concern in the area, with police continuing their investigation into the case.
