MRI Unit Inaugurated at Marwari Hospitals in Guwahati

Guwahati: Marwari Hospitals, Guwahati, marked a significant milestone in strengthening its diagnostic services with the inauguration of a new MRI Unit on Wednesday, March 25. The facility was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Anup Kumar Barman, Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries including Marwari Hospitals President Sarat Kumar Jain, General Secretary Kishore Kumar Saboo, Immediate Past President Ramesh Goenka, Treasurer Manoj Agarwal, Director Medical Services Dr. J.P. Sarma, and Hospital Superintendent Rohit Upadhayay. Members of the hospital’s working committee and staff were also present, along with members of the donor Kayal familySmti. Pushpa Devi Kayal, Manoj Kayal, and Deepak Kayal.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by President Sarat Kumar Jain, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. A felicitation ceremony was also held to honour the chief guest and the donor family for their valuable contribution.

Addressing the gathering, Jain described the MRI facility as a long-pending requirement of the hospital and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Kayal family for donating the unit and supporting its installation. He noted that earlier, several critical patients had to be referred to other institutions for MRI scans, but with the new facility, Marwari Hospitals will now be able to provide this essential diagnostic service at an affordable cost.

Jain also acknowledged the support of Oil India Limited (OIL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) for extending CSR assistance towards the project.

The newly installed MRI machine is a 1.5 Tesla helium-free unit, equipped with advanced features such as low-noise operation, ultra-fast scanning, enhanced imaging quality, and AI-enabled technology, aimed at ensuring greater patient comfort and accuracy in diagnosis.

He further appreciated the contribution of the Lohia family, who previously supported the hospital’s radiology department by donating major diagnostic equipment including CT scan, X-ray, DR system, and ultrasound machines through the Lohia Charitable Trust.

Highlighting the hospital’s recent developments, Jain stated that Marwari Hospitals has introduced a Diabetes Centre and a Cath Lab in 2025, enabling affordable access to specialised cardiology and diabetes care. He also shared upcoming plans including the launch of an IVF facility, revamping of the Mother and Child Block, and the establishment of a nursing college.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Anup Kumar Barman termed Marwari Hospitals as one of the key healthcare institutions in the North-East. He stated that the new MRI unit will play a crucial role in delivering quality diagnostic services at reasonable rates, particularly benefiting economically weaker sections. He assured institutional support and expressed confidence that the hospital would continue to grow into one of the finest healthcare centres in the country.

Representing the donor family, Manoj Kayal said the Kayal family was honoured to contribute towards the hospital’s development and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting its future growth.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by General Secretary Kishore Kumar Saboo.
