GUWAHATI: Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday, 12 August during a pressmeet said that New definition of ‘Assamese’ must first be adopted by Assembly.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “New definition of ‘Assamese’ must first be adopted by Assembly. High-level committee appointed by central govt in July 2019 to answer the question has decided “Assamese people” should mean anyone living in Assam before 1951 & their descendants.”
