Newlywed Couple Found Dead in Sonapur; Conflicting Family Claims Raise Questions

GUWAHATI: A newly married couple was found dead under mysterious circumstances at their residence in Jyotinagar, Sonapur, on October 25, triggering concern and raising questions over the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The deceased have been identified as Suraj Tumung and Mallika Tumung, who had reportedly been married for around eight months. Mallika, 27, was from Patarkuchi, while Suraj belonged to Jyotinagar.

According to preliminary information, Suraj was found hanging, while Mallika was found lying on the floor. Police reached the scene and initiated an investigation. A forensic team from Guwahati also examined the location and collected evidence. The bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem examinations to establish the cause of death.

Families Make Contradictory Claims

The incident has led to conflicting accounts from the families of the deceased. Suraj’s family has claimed that the couple died by suicide on the day of Lakshmi Puja.

However, Mallika’s family has rejected the suicide claim, alleging that she had faced physical and mental harassment after marriage. Her relatives have expressed suspicion over the circumstances of her death and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
