NSCN-K faction attacks Assam Rifles camp

Suspected insurgents from the Yung Aung faction of the NSCN-K fired at an Assam Rifles camp in Chenloisu village in Mon district of Nagaland along the Indo-Myanmar border in the early hours of Sunday.

Sources said the NSCN-K faction insurgents fled after firing several rounds at D Coy camp of 40 Assam Rifles at around 2 am. The Assam Rifles personnel retaliated, but there was no report of any casualty on either side during the exchange of fire. Village guards and gaonburhas of the area visited the site and recovered 75 empty cases of bullets. Though the motive behind the attack was not immediately known, sources said the militants might have carried out the attack to prove their existence and disturb peace.
Mon Deputy Commissioner Thavaseelan K confirmed the incident, and said the security forces cordoned off the area and a hunt is on to nab the militants. Thavaseelan said no outfit claimed responsibility for the attack till late Sunday evening.

In another development, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps, Lt Gen Rajeev Sirohi called on Nagaland Governor RN Ravi in Kohima on Sunday and discussed the security situation.

The General apprised the Governor about the coordination of the army and the Assam Rifles with the state agencies for maintaining peace and tranquillity in the state and along the Indo-Myanmar border.
