GUWAHATI: Oil India Limited is observing ‘OIL-SAKSHAM 2021’, a mass awareness drive seeking citizens to actively participate in fuel
conservation for health and environmental protection and to help in
reducing India’s dependency on the import of crude oil.
Oil India Limited is observing Saksham 2021 under the guidance of PCRA (Petroleum
Conservation Research Association), a registered society set up under
the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India.
The OIL-SAKSHAM 2021, is an effort towards creating awareness among
people to make citizens aware of the conservation and effective
utilization of petroleum products and inspire all to lead a healthier
lifestyle.
This year the theme is “Green and Clean Energy”. As part of this
awareness drive Saksham Cyclothons will be organized at 300 cities
across India on 31st of January 2021 by PCRA.
Assam Oil India Limited (Pipeline Headquarters, Narengi) has
been entrusted to organize Saksham Cyclothons in Guwahati, Nagaon,
Tezpur and Jorhat. OIL had also organized Saksham Cyclothons at
Guwahati in 2019 and 2020 and saw huge participation making it one
of the biggest cycling events in the region.
This year Saksham Cyclothons will also be organized in Jorhat, Tezpur and
Nagaon along with Guwahati. To organize the Cyclothons OIL has associated with an NGO called Pedal for a Change as well as with local
cycling groups in each of the cities to attract regular cyclists.
The event is being promoted on radio, social media as well through
interactions with local educational institutes.
There is no registration or joining fees for participants of the cyclothon
and freebies are kept for the early birds. All participants are requested to
maintain the Covid protocols during the event. The distance to be
covered in each of the cyclothons will be 10-12 km approximately and
altogether more than 500 cyclists are expected to participate in these 4
cities of Assam.
