BJP Assam Pradesh Intensify Relief, Rehabilitation and Recovery Efforts
Guwahati, July 28, 2026: In a significant demonstration of the Centre’s deep concern for the people of Assam, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today held a special meeting with all 13 Members of Parliament from Assam, representing both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, to undertake a comprehensive review of the flood situation said party Spokesperson Mita Nath Bora. During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed profound grief over the devastation caused by the floods and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. He reviewed the extent of the damage, the ongoing rescue and relief operations, and the rehabilitation measures being undertaken across the affected districts. Reaffirming the Government of India’s unwavering commitment to the people of Assam, the Prime Minister assured that the Centre would continue to provide every possible assistance for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction. He also announced that financial assistance would be extended by the Central Government to the families of those who lost their lives in the floods, in accordance with the prescribed norms.
Spokesperson Mita Nath Bora stated that underscoring the Centre’s prompt response, a five-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team, led by M. Ramachandru, Joint Secretary, Disaster Management Division, Ministry of Home Affairs, continues its on-ground assessment for the second consecutive day. The team is evaluating the extent of the damage, reviewing rescue and relief operations, and assessing losses to crops, livestock and public infrastructure to facilitate timely Central assistance for the state’s recovery and rehabilitation efforts.
Meanwhile, the Government of Assam has simultaneously intensified relief and rehabilitation measures across the affected districts. The Government of Assam continues to ensure the uninterrupted supply of food, drinking water, medicines, essential commodities and other relief materials through district administrations, while restoration of roads, electricity, communication networks and other critical infrastructure is progressing on priority.
Complementing these efforts, Spokesperson Mita Nath Bora states that BJP Assam Pradesh has announced a major humanitarian relief initiative worth ₹12 crore to assist flood-affected families across the state. Under this programme, relief materials will be directly distributed to two lakh women and two lakh children. Women beneficiaries will receive traditional Assamese sarees and mekhela-sadors, while children will be provided with T-shirts and other essential clothing based on their needs. This initiative is intended to provide immediate assistance and restore dignity to families that have suffered severe losses due to the floods.
And, in a remarkable expression of solidarity with the flood-affected people of Assam, the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, the Deputy Speaker and all Members of the Legislative Assembly have voluntarily decided to contribute one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Officers, employees and staff of the Assam Legislative Assembly have also resolved to contribute one day’s salary, reflecting the collective commitment of the Legislature towards relief and rehabilitation.
As floodwaters gradually recede, the focus is steadily shifting towards restoring normalcy, rebuilding damaged infrastructure and ensuring that every affected family receives timely support. As part of the long-term rehabilitation strategy, the Government has decided that the reconstruction of houses damaged or destroyed by the floods, alongwith all infrastructures destroyed, will be undertaken through the Panchayat & Rural Development Department. The initiative aims to ensure the speedy rebuilding of homes and the restoration of safe living conditions for affected families.
