Chapar (Dhubri), July 8: Raijor Dal leader and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi reached Chapar, one of the key sites of the ongoing eviction drive in Bilasipara, Dhubri district, on Monday.
However, the district administration denied him entry to the restricted eviction zone. Undeterred, Gogoi interacted with local residents gathered nearby and expressed solidarity with the evicted families.
Although Gogoi initially cooperated with the police, he was detained later in the day after tensions escalated at the site. The situation turned volatile as some individuals allegedly attacked government machinery and security forces with stones and sticks.
Gogoi was however release after sometime.
