Shab-e-Qadar, the night of power and blessings and is celebrated on the 27th night of Ramzan. Muslims across the world perform night-long prayers on the 27th night of Ramzan to celebrate the first revelation of Holy Quran to Prophet Mohammad.

Also known as Laylat al-Qadr, this night is considered as one of the holiest Islamic nights. 

During the night, Muslims offer special prayers and duas till dawn. 

On this day, preachers and religious scholars highlight the teachings of Islam and various aspects of the life of the Prophet and urge Muslims to follow the same. 

Shab-e-Qadr 2020 date 

Shab-e-Qadr is mostly observed on the 27th of Ramzan. In India, Shab-e-Qadr will be observed on May 21 this year. Muslims in India will start the prayers on the evening of May 20th and will continue it till the morning of 21st May.

Laylat al-Qadr signifies the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Mohammad. Muslims believe that on this night the blessings and mercy of God are abundant. Some recite Quran entire night to seek God’s blessings and mercy. 

Shab-e-Qadr Dua

Muslims make special dua during Shab-e-Qadr and it is, ‘Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuhibbul `afwa fa’fu `annee’.

In India, Eid is expected to be celebrated either on May 24 or May 25 (depending on the sighting of moon)
