Former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora on Monday announced his decision to retire from electoral politics following his defeat in the Barchalla Assembly constituency, where he lost to BJP candidate Ritu Baran Sarmah.
Stating that he will no longer contest elections, Bora clarified that he will continue to remain in the Congress party and work as a senior leader in the fight against the BJP.
While accepting the verdict of the people, Bora expressed reservations over the election outcome and said the party would conduct a detailed review of the defeat. He also questioned whether the enthusiasm shown by young voters during the campaign was accurately reflected in the final results, adding that concerns over possible EVM manipulation could not be entirely dismissed.
