Sex Racket Busted in Barpeta; Four Arrested, Dhaba Owner Absconding

Guwahati: In a major crackdown, police in Assam’s Barpeta district busted an alleged sex racket operating from a roadside dhaba and arrested four individuals, including two women.

Acting on a tip-off, Barpeta Police carried out a targeted raid at ‘Green Kaziranga’ dhaba located in the Nagaon locality of Barpeta. The operation followed repeated complaints from local residents alleging that illegal and immoral activities were being conducted under the guise of a roadside eatery.

According to police sources, the establishment had reportedly become a hub for organised prostitution for a considerable period. Locals also alleged that a person identified as Shahidul Islam was managing the illegal operations.

During the raid, police detained two men and two women from the premises and recovered several incriminating materials. The four accused were taken to Barpeta Police Station for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, the owner of the dhaba managed to flee during the operation and is currently absconding. Police have launched a search to trace and apprehend him.
