Sushant’s Doctor Says Sushant Stopped Taking Depression Medication In June 2020

Dr Kersi Chavda, who was treating Sushant Singh Rajput for depression, told the investigating officers of Mumbai Police that Sushant had stopped taking his medicines in June 2020, following which his condition deteriorated. He also added that the Mumbai Police has this as part of his recorded statement. Earlier, statements of five psychiatrists were recorded by Mumbai Police. These include Kersi Chavda, Perveen Dadachanji, Harish Shetty, Nikita Shah and Susan Walker, and each of them had confirmed that Sushant Singh Rajput suffered from severe depression. Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide on June 14.

“Sushant stopped taking medicines and had a panic attack in the first week of June 2020. [He had] severe anxiety, depression and existential crisis. [This is] part of the police records with the Mumbai Police,” Chavda said, as per sources.

Chavda’s statement once again brings the focus back to the fact that Sushant Singh Rajput did in fact suffer from severe depression. The Mumbai Police’s preliminary investigation suggested that depression possibly drove him to kill himself, even as Sushant’s family and several others are reluctant to accept the same. Sushant died on June 14, the second week of June, while Rhea Chakraborty, his live-in girlfriend left his Bandra, Mumbai home on June 8. What happened in the one week in between, remains a mystery.

In an India Today exclusive, Rhea Chakraborty too reiterated that Sushant was depressed and had been under treatment since before she met him. She also said that Sushant was under Dr Chavda’s treatment and he was responding well. “Sushant was depressed. He was seeking treatment too. He told me he had met a psychiatrist in 2013. He had been admitted to Hinduja hospital for treatment too at one point, he was under Dr Kersi Chavda… In December 2019, he was getting better under Dr Chavda’s treatment,” Rhea said.

Rhea further divulged that the reason behind Sushant’s depression was that he missed is mother terribly. “Sushant ke depression ka ek bada reason hai ki he wasn’t able to live without his mother. She also struggled with mental illness,” Rhea said.

Meanwhile, today Rhea was summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who is investigating the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, for questioning. She is also being simultaneously investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
