Tamil Nadu: CRPF constable’s wife asks him to visit her, hangs self over his inability to take leave

The wife of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, who is posted in Nagaland, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at a village in Sulur block of Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district on August 18. The now-deceased woman took the extreme step after her husband failed to get leave and visit her from Nagaland.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Sangeetha (34), fell in love with CRPF constable Rajesh Kumar in 2017 when he was posted in Chennai. The duo tied the knot in August in the same year. They were living in a rented house at Muthugoundenpur near Sulur town. Later, Rakesh moved to Nagaland, leaving Sangeetha in Muthugoundenpur, as got transferred there.

CRPF constable explains situation

Rakesh took leave for 20 days in January this year and visited Sangeetha. When Kumar returned to Nagaland, the couple stayed connected over phone and video calls. Later, when the lockdown was imposed to contain the pandemic, Sangeetha asked Kumar to visit her again for some days. However, he told her that the authorities were not granting leave to personnel due to the pandemic situation, according to a report by The Times of India.

Feeling lonely, woman tells husband

During a video call on August 18, Sangeetha told Kumar that she was struggling with the feeling of loneliness. She again requested him to visit her some days. When Rakesh explained his inability to take leave, she disconnected the call after telling him that she would end her life. After that, she hanged herself to death from a ceiling fan, police said.
