Two Arrested for Theft of Passenger’s Laptop Bag at Guwahati Railway Station

CCTV footage helped investigators trace the suspects after a passenger’s laptop bag containing gold jewellery was stolen from a train coach on August 15.

Guwahati: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the theft of a passenger’s laptop bag at Guwahati Railway Station, with the breakthrough coming after investigators analysed CCTV footage from the station.

The theft took place on August 15, when a passenger’s bag was allegedly stolen from the B4 coach of a train. The bag reportedly contained a laptop and gold jewellery.

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage and traced the suspected involvement of Saiful Islam, a resident of Lakhipur in Goalpara. He was arrested and allegedly confessed to his role in the theft during questioning.

Investigators further learnt that the stolen laptop had been sold, while the gold jewellery had been handed over to another person.

Acting on the information, police arrested another alleged associate, Shivananda Biswas, who is also reportedly linked to an earlier railway theft case.

Both accused have been handed over to the Guwahati Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation. Police are now probing whether the duo was involved in other similar thefts targeting railway passengers.
