Two more arrested in Morikolong dacoity case, total arrests reach eight

Nagaon Police have arrested two more individuals in connection with the high-profile dacoity case at the Morikolong residence of Dr Ranjit Saikia, taking the total number of arrests to eight.

The latest accused have been identified as Harish Sarma and Satish Shah. Police officials said both are suspected to have aided the dacoit gang in carrying out the crime.

The incident occurred in the early hours of April 24, when a group of miscreants allegedly stormed Dr Saikia’s house in Morikolong and launched a violent attack.

Dr Saikia and his wife, Ruprekha Bhuyan Saikia, sustained severe injuries during the assault. Ruprekha later succumbed to her injuries on May 10 while undergoing treatment in Guwahati.

Following the incident, Nagaon Sadar Police Station registered a case under FIR No. 292/2026, invoking Sections 310(2), 311, and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Earlier, police had arrested six other suspects — Omar Ali, Mintu Hussain, Najirul Islam, Rajibur Rahman, Rezak Ali, and Nurul Hussain — in connection with the case.

Police also recovered two machetes believed to have been used during the dacoity, along with a vehicle bearing registration number AR-01-M-4013. Further investigation is currently underway.
